Brow Myth #3: One Size Fits All

Listen up, ladies. As much as we love cookie cutters (more importantly the cookies that come with), one of the biggest myths of brow grooming is that one size fits all. Think about it. Do you really want YOUR brows to be modeled after a shape mass-produced in the eyebrow factory? Didn’t think so.

The eyebrow has four main characteristics: shape, thickness, color & length. There’s always room for improvement in each area & the goal is to create the best brow for your face. Not your mom’s, not your sister’s, not your BFF’s, but yours, gorgeous! Never, and we mean never, take a stencil to your brow (leave those to food & your nephew’s Playdoh set).

At Benefit, we call customized shaping brow mapping. It’s a method developed by our brow experts more than 30 years ago to determine the perfect brow shape for your face.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: First, we take a pencil and line it up with the inner corner of your nose and the inner corner of your eye. Then, we make a mark there using brow zings or any brow pencil. This tells you where your eyebrow should start.

Step 2: Next, we hold the pencil horizontally from the outside corner of your nose through the outer corner of your pupil and make another mark—this is where your arch should be.

Step 3: Finally, we line up the outer corner of your nose with the outer corner of your eye to make the final mark—this is where your eyebrow should end. Now, we can carefully fill in from mark to mark with brow zings or gimme brow to create your new & improved brow.

Overall, your best bet is to visit one of our Brow Experts and let them handle the shaping. Your aesthie will determine your best thickness, height & length that’ll fit perfectly with just what Mother Nature gave you! Ask them questions about maintaining the shape & filling them in the correct way so you can do it at home. Then practice, practice, practice. Sometimes a good brow takes time, but once you get it right, it’s life-changing, promise!
